Copper Boat on top of glass cast to look like Gladys the House Bound Diva Alligator. This is from my sketch book of ideas - it's a project that will allow me to take what I have learned from casting glass and combining with my metal work.
I have two copper boats in the Auburn Old Town Gallery for sale - one large and small both both boats sit on a base of stone.

Day Hike

Day Hike is 9" tall and is constructed of copper and stone. The coloring was achieved by leaving the oils from my fingers on the copper, water and heat. It is for sale at the Auburn Old Town Gallery.

Another leaf from the second set of leaves. This shows in better detail the patina using heat and water. I have been heating the copper leaf after dipping in water to achieve an uneven ripple effect as the heat drys the moisture on the surface.

More Error than Trial

This is the first piece from the kiln. I was trying to use the copper leaf as a mold but the glass fused itself to the copper. I do like the way it looks - and for not knowing what I am truly doing not bad. This piece was sold Dec. 6, 2010

Down to the Sea found life from a found rock packed out of the American River and a from a discarded copper leaf that I formed and was not happy with. She is about 20 inches in length.

Well never made it to Bonneville due to family matters - ended up in Santa Fe, NM during Indian Market. It was incredible - all the galleries - the art and of course the food. It was truly remarkable to see all the artist showing off their work and willing to talk about not only their art but about themselves.

This is the base of Mystic Woman the glass came from a shop in Half Moon Bay, CA - the stone from Bullards Beach, OR - and the drill bit from a junk store in San Juan Bautista, CA.

The table frame is constructed using 1/4inch square steel tubing. The design gives the illusion that the frame is moving depending where in the room you are standing.
The table stands 30 inches - 32 inches wide - 10 inches deep.

"The sculptures that Stephen has hanging in the Auburn Old Town Gallery range from smaller pieces, the size of a business card or cell phone, to larger pieces that are over two feet in length and width. Each piece shares a three dimensional aspect; literally popping off of the wall. Copper and silver wires not only hold the various parts of a work together, but also spring out in curls and waves from his pieces, giving each one a feeling of movement. Stephen flattens each wire by hammering it by hand, and the result is a wonderful texture that lends visual interest to the smallest of details. These wires are more than decorative, as Stephen likes to use tension along with the occasional joints to hold his sculptures together. Sheets of copper and brass are finished with a tool that grinds a unique pattern on the surface, resulting in a texture that is a cross between fine sand and a reptilian skin. It is this attention to detail and texture that makes Stephen’s pieces so interesting to look at."
